Every year, about <strong>380 billion<\/strong> cubic metres of wastewater is produced worldwide as a result of human activity. About one third of this amount are industrial wastewaters polluted with various substances.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Due to its high sorption and ion-exchange properties, bentonite is widely used in wastewater treatment worldwide.<\/p>\n\n<p>The use of bentonite-based sorbents provides:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>effective sedimentation of suspended particles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduction of organic compounds content (phenol, benzene, toluene, xylene, diesel fuel, etc.) as well as pesticides and herbicides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduction of heavy metal cations and hardness salts (calcium, magnesium)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduction of radionuclides<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improve water colour.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>It is important that bentonite is a natural mineral and its use has no negative impact on humans or the environment.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bentonit.ru\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/neoov-en.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1154\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Fig. Scheme of bentonite use in wastewater treatment <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>The fine suspension of bentonite powder is fed into a tank with wastewater previously treated from coarse impurities.<\/p>\n\n<p>To accelerate coagulation, micro additives of nutrient salts (aluminium or iron) are introduced into the water, after which the enlarged particles are flocculated and precipitated by adding a water-polymer solution.<\/p>\n\n<p>The resulting precipitates are compacted and recycled into sand and gravel construction material.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With the development of industry and increasing water consumption, the amount of wastewater generated is also increasing.
