Bentonite for foundry
Casting is the most universal method of manufacturing metal work pieces. Currently, more than 100 various casting methods are known. However, most ferrous metal castings (cast iron, steel) are made in disposable green sand moulds consisting of molding sand (usually quartz sand), a clay bond and process additives. Such sand and clay mixtures use bentonite clay as binder.
Production of cast parts in sand and bentonite mixtures is more environmentally friendly compared to casting methods in moulds with chemically curing binders. The main advantage is the minimal emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere of the working area when pouring metal into moulds and significant savings from foundry waste taken to dumps. The bentonite ability to restore the binding capacity after pouring metal into moulds allows for the repeated use of sand and clay moulding mixtures for the mass production of cast parts.
For foundry, Bentonite Group manufactures the following types of products: Bentonite powders, Bentacarb.
